Determined to clear his name and exonerate himself, Nolan decides to go undercover in order to catch Derian, the Armenian mob paymaster who has been funding the illegal activities. His plan is to gather evidence that can implicate Armstrong as the mastermind behind the scheme. However, Armstrong, anticipating Nolan's move, manages to escape from the hospital and strikes a deal with Derian, tipped off by Rosalind about the cops finding his go bag. The situation escalates when Armstrong attempts to execute Nolan in a covert operation. Unfortunately for Armstrong, his gun is found to be empty, leading to his immediate death at the hands of Nolan's backup team. This successful intervention allows Nolan to escape and apprehend Derian, thereby securing the evidence that proves Armstrong's guilt. The aftermath sees Nolan and Harper receive letters of reprimand in their personnel files, effectively barring them from further promotion for the foreseeable future. Nolan is also required to undergo an additional month of training as part of his disciplinary exam. Despite these setbacks, Nolan remains undeterred and continues to work towards clearing his name. On a personal note, Lopez, who has been experiencing pregnancy symptoms, decides to hold off on announcing her pregnancy for now in order to have a clean start as she embarks on her new role as a detective.
